Grey Water Pumps Sets

Grey water is one of the greatest resources to be used in the fight to keep our lawns and garden beds alive during this long dry.

However there are some important rules to remember
    • Grey water should not be stored for more than 24 hours and ideally not all.
    • Grey water should not be sprayed
    • Grey water will block small sprays and non grey water pumps

The best method of using grey water is to sub-terrain discharge it. That is to push it out through poly pipe under ground like a soaker hose. This specific pipe is coloured purple and can be purchased from your local plumbing supplier.

Second method is to discharge it through an open ended hose, preferrably of 25mm inside diameter. This then flood irrigates your lawn or garden beads.
Third option is to use a sprinkler to water, this is not recommended by use and should not be done.

Submersible Pumps

Many submersible pumps exist. Most are very similar in performance. Grey water pumps pump large volumes with little pressure. This means that they are not suitable to pump water through garden hose or the like. Submersible pumps are made to use 25mm (1") or bigger hose and up to a length of 25 metres. Most have a float switch that will turn them off when the water level reaches the bottom.

How do I pump grey water through my garden hose?

A limited range of submersible pumps will use garden hose but they are expensive ($400+). We have a small RiverFlow by Onga pump available that will pump through garden hose. This is not submersible and needs to be mounted at the base of your tank/ pit/ wheelie bin. This pump can have a float switch fitted that will turn the pump on and off as the water level in your container changes. It is advisable to have the float switch fitted, as no water pump should be allowed to run without water.

Rain Water Tank Pumps

We have an extensive range of pumps for rainwater tanks. Most people require a small pump that will run a hose or perhaps two. Run the micro spray system or possibly a sprinkler.

These pumps range from $140.00 with no controller up to many hundreds of dollars.

We need to know how many hoses or items you wish to run at once, were is the water tank in relation to the pump and if the tank is above or beneath the ground. Is it likely to run at night?

Most of our pumps will turn them selves off if the tank runs out of water, if this function is required (and we do recommend it) please ensure that your choice does this. Do you require your pump to revert to the mains if your water tank level is to low? This function is available with the great "Onga Water Switch".
